Our main activities are based on
the 3 groups our beneficiaries are divided into
1. Underprivileged women,
especially those in prostitution in the Falkland Road
area
2. Sparrows (daughters of women) - aged 5 to 21 yrs
3. Their Children - aged 2.5 to 6 yrs
Currently, we have 962 beneficiaries
enrolled with us.
Although some of our activities depend completely
on the group involved, there are some others, common to all three
groups of beneficiaries. These range from referrals for rehabilitation
and residential care to recreational activities. They are
Counselling
Uneducated and unskilled, women in brothel-based prostitution, their
daughters and children, face a lot of discrimination, atrocities,
stressors and trauma. To cope with their health, and even their
emotional, psychological and physical needs, AAWC
ensure that they have access to professional counsellors.
Sparrows (daughters) are also provided with
career and educational counselling.

Health
Stigma and discrimination make it very hard for women in prostitution
to access public health care. And if they are very sick and affected
by HIV/AIDS or Tuberculosis (TB), it is even worse.
Our staff counsels, convinces and escorts beneficiaries
to avail of proper treatment
from medical clinics or hospitals instead of the local quacks.
Our field staff even tries to ensure they complete the prescribed
treatment.
We organize general medical camps every 6 months and
hope to increase their frequency to once every 3 months. We also
distribute free allopathic and ayurvedic medicines to the Sparrows,
whenever the need arises. They are also provided with multi-vitamins
and calcium tablets regularly

Referrals for Rehabilitation
and Residential care
AAWC refers women, children and daughters with
special needs to residential as well as rehabilitation homes. We
also arrange shelter homes for women with HIV/ AIDS . Residential
help is provided to women after they give up prostitution. Short
stay is also arranged for, if the need arises.
The environment in the red light area is not conducive
for children and young girls. We arrange for them to be put in boarding
homes. The boarding homes then provide education and all other welfare
services.

Recreational Activities
Apart from screening movies and birthday celebrations, we celebrate
four major festivals - Holi, Rakhi, Navratri,
Eid and Christmas. We also celebrate the foundation day
of AAWC with great enthusiasm.
Every half yearly, we arrange educational as
well as other entertainment-oriented outings to increase knowledge,
confidence and facilitate community building.
